Northern Ireland 'top' for St Patrick's Day

Those looking to celebrate the famous patron saint should look think about taking a trip to Northern Ireland to experience the cultural traditions surrounding St Patrick.

St Patrick is Ireland's national holiday and falls on March 17th. In Belfast, the occasion will be marked with a parade and a concert in the centre of the city.

Ireland as a whole has been committed to promoting the revelry with around £28 million spent on spreading awareness of St Patrick - who is credited with bringing catholocism to Ireland.

As well as events being held throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, a number of cities this side of the water are also holding events.

"In London the mayor's annual St Patrick's Day parade and festival will take place on Sunday March 16th. Trafalgar Square will feature the best of Irish music and dance and an Irish travel exhibition," advised a spokesperson from Tourism Ireland.
