A town in Norway plans to become "the snowman capital of the world" through the establishment of a number of facilities, it has emerged.

Investors in the town of Maalselv have announced that the project is likely to feature a snow hotel, a snowman theme park inspired by those run by Disney and open-air activities across Norway's snow plains.

The group hopes the facility will be able to rival the Santa Claus' Village in Rovaniemi in neighbouring Finland.

Even Hegborn, leader of the investor group, commented: "The starting point is better here, we have spectacular landscapes, we're close to the fjords and the sea and high snowy mountains, while Finland's forests and small mountains are somewhat less impressive."

Those planning a trip to Norway during the festive period may be able to visit the festival Polarjazz and the Tromso International Film Festival.

Consumers planning a trip to snowy climes may find that they benefit from contacting InsureandGo, either online or over the phone, to obtain a competitive deal on winter holiday insurance.
