The London 2012 Olympics will hopefully be great for tourism in the capital and the UK as a whole, it has been suggested.

Liberal Democrat member of the London Assembly Dee Doocey commented that iconic places to visit in the capital would also help to attract visitors.

Brits planning to fork out for an Olympics ticket may want to get holiday insurance to make sure their trip is not ruined by unforeseen problems.

Ms Doocey said: "The Olympics is going to be an absolutely wonderful opportunity to get tourists back."

Figures from VisitBritain suggest that the Olympics may generate as much as £2 billion for the UK's international visitor economy.

The group estimates that between 50 and 70 per cent of the total economic benefit from the Games will come from tourism.

Travel insurance from InsureandGo can cover those planning on visiting the Games for any issues which may cause problems on their trip.
