Some 21 per cent of women prefer to get someone else to check their tyres for them as they "do not have a clue" about the correct tyre pressure for their car, research has suggested.
The study, carried out by safety organisation TyreSafe, has been carried out in conjunction with Tyre Safety Month which runs throughout October.
Motoring journalist Vicki Butler-Henderson commented: "Drivers are clearly not aware of the dangers of driving a car with severely under-inflated tyres. I have recently been testing a car with tyres at low pressures and badly worn and the combination is potentially deadly."
The charity warns that under-inflated tyres, combined with poor driving, may pose a safety risk that could result in a crash and the need to make a claim on a
car insurance policy.
A recent study by Sheila's Wheels indicated that the average UK woman spends two hours and seven minutes researching
car insurance before choosing a provider.
Both male and female drivers may find that they can obtain a competitive quote for
car insurance by contacting
InsureandGo online or over the phone.
