An emerging generation of over-50s are determined not to be bogged down by the current economic gloom being felt by many, Lloyds TSB has commented.

Recent research from the bank has shown that 43 per cent of those of this age group rate their quality of life as being very high, while 27 per cent of 40-somethings were found to feel similarly.

Furthermore, 50 per cent said they were flexible enough to live their life in the manner they wished, while only eight per cent said that working was still important to them.

Commenting on the findings, life coach Gladeana McMahon, said: "When you reach your 50s, you finally become comfortable in your own skin, it is the decade of your life when you can truly become an individual."

Late last month, Lloyd's highlighted the economic problems being felt by students as research showed that 33 per cent of those questioned would stay at home during university to cut costs.
