Those planning on taking the car on a holiday abroad need to check the terms of their car insurance policy, it has been claimed.

According to price comparison site uSwitch, Britons travelling abroad this Easter could run the risk of financial crisis if they fail to ensure they are adequately covered when on holiday.

The site claims that 17.2 million are completely unaware of whether their vehicle would be covered abroad under the terms of their policy.

Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, comments: "It isn't only sun cream protection that holidaymakers need to worry about when driving abroad this year - motorists must also spend some time examining the protection offered by their car insurance provider."

The news follows recent suggestions from the RAC that people need to check that secondary drivers are listed on insurance policies before travelling to festivals in the coming months.

InsureandGo offers car insurance packages for a range of coverage options.
