Those taking an overseas trip have been urged to take their plastic with them, as the use of credit cards can add an extra layer of financial protection for purchases, one industry expert has argued.
While taking out
travel insurance is one way to protect against the loss of belongings, Addy Frederick, public relations assistant at APACS - the UK payments association - said that paying on a credit card while on holiday can be a similar form of protection for those looking to safeguard their money.
He commented: "We do advise [consumers] to make sure when they go abroad they have their card issuer's address and their card issuer's emergency phone number."
According to the Financial Ombudsman Service, under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, goods valued between £100 and £30,000 can be claimed back from a credit card provider if the vendor is found to have misrepresented themselves or if the product itself fails to be delivered or is faulty.
InsureandGo offers travel insurance to provide peace of mind against the loss of items.
