Holidays which allow tourists to book everything but their travel insurance all at once are still huge news in the travel sector, it has been suggested.

According to a new report from Mintel which has been published in Travel Weekly, news claiming that the package holiday market has declined has been exaggerated.

The survey notes that such holidays generated a record amount of revenue in 2008.

In total, Mintel says that approximately 19-20 million such breaks have been sold every year since 2003.

While package breaks often include hotels, flights and other arrangements, holiday insurance should always be obtained by the holidaymaker before a trip starts.

The Mintel survey also commented on the independent travel sector: "Independent travel has grown 25 per cent over the last five years as the package market has flattened. However, the package industry still sold 3.5 million more trips last year than a decade earlier."

While such breaks remain popular, it has been widely noted that more people will take domestic breaks this year.

InsureandGo offers travel insurance which can cover any kind of holiday, domestic or otherwise.
