Michael Palin's new travel series revisiting the old communist countries of Eastern Europe could encourage more Britons to travel there, according to travel experts.
Daniel Pawlyn, of adventure holiday website Intrepid Travel, said that Palin's last trip around the Himalayas led to an increase in interest by British travellers to journey there.
Mr Pawlyn expects Palin's new show, starting on September 16th and being shown on BBC2, to have the same effect.
'The great thing about the way Michael Palin travels is that he really gets under the skin of a country; travelling on local transport staying in traditional accommodation and generally doing what the locals do,' he told travelmole.com.
The Monty Python comedian will visit Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia and other countries previously behind the Iron Curtain during his new series.
The 'Palin effect' has been noted before when he visited Peru for his 'Around the World in 80 days' travel series, travel agent The Adventure Company reported a tripling in bookings to the South American country.
