Parents are an 'unpaid taxi service'
New research has found that the nation's parents are spending many hours taxiing their children from one destination to another after they've finished work.
An AA poll estimates that the average parent racks up 1,600 miles per year getting their kids to various hangouts.
Parents would add an extra £2,983 to their annual salary if they were paid for the service, the organisation claims.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, says: "Most parents accept that 'chauffeur' is part of their parental job description, along with 'chef,' 'cleaner,' 'counsellor' and many more but our research proves they really go that extra mile to ensure their children can get around."
However, he added that it was important to make sure short trips were still undertaken safely, as a third of
car insurance claims are made for accidents that have occurred within five miles of the home.
Personal injury advice service Crystal Claims advises parents to make sure kids are wearing seatbelts and have a safety seat suitable for their height and weight if necessary.
