Paris has retained its position as the most romantic city in the world, according to a new survey carried out on behalf of the Homebuyer Show.

The French capital, an ever present in Brits' favourite city break destinations, fended off stiff competition from Edinburgh and the south of France's Cote D'Azur.

Both Paris' attractions and its unique atmosphere have contributed to its status as a love-sick couple's holiday hotspot.

The iconic Eiffel Tower is a must for any couple looking to consolidate the heights of their affection while the Sacre-Coeur, the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral provide the cultural backdrop to those highly charge emotions.

And when the patter of tiny feet emerges onto the scene Euro Disney is just around the corner to keep the kids entertained.

But it is Paris' cobbled boulevards, terraced cafes and the historic intrigue of many past illicit sojourns that make the city unique and maintain its enduring appeal to couples of all ages.
