Commenting on a recent announcement that will see parking fines being delivered by post following on from CCTV monitoring, the AA has said that parking enforcement has lost sight of its objectives.
The post-based tickets may now be issued to those cars that are spotted parking illegally temporarily, such as drivers making deliveries, dropping off passengers or moving out of the way of cars obstructing the road, the AA notes.
Blue-badge holders could also be stung, it states.
"Some local authorities have lost sight of the original aims of parking enforcement, which was to keep traffic flowing, warn selfish drivers, punish blatant offenders and keep legitimate use of car parking spaces ticking over," argues Edmund King, the AA's president.
He continues by stating that the AA will monitor the situation and pass concerns on to Rosie Winterton, transport minister.
This is Money notes that the rules come into effect today throughout the country and have previously been enforced in London.
