A new study of UK people of pensionable age has found that winding down is a low priority for those planning for their retirement.
The Prudential survey involved interviews with more than 4,000 people and found that of the people retiring this year, the top ambition was to travel the world.
While 32 per cent expressed an interest in global travel, a further 27 per cent also stated that they would like to spend more than three months in a foreign country.
Other ambitions included writing a novel and learning a language, with physical accomplishments also making the to-do list.
Around four per cent of people said they wished to learn to scuba dive, while one per cent of respondents expressed an interest in doing a bungee jump.
Gary Shaughnessy, managing director of Prudential Retail Life & Pensions, said: "Improving health care and greater longevity mean those retiring today are likely to be able to enjoy far more active lives through their pensionable years than any previous generation."
However, while a new study by Alliance Trust finds that the elderly are hit hardest by rising fuel and food costs, Mr Shaughnessy asserts that it is important for people to plan their retirement carefully.
