Despite the ongoing financial trouble in the UK, people are still keen to travel, it has been suggested.

And those still planning to jet off to sunnier destinations this year should ensure that they do not scrimp on travel insurance to try and lower the cost of a break.

The World Travel and Tourism Council's (WWTC) Travel and Tourism Economic Impact report 2009 noted that people still wanting to travel made the current recession different to other "blips" which had affected the travel sector.

Economist at the WTTC Amir Girgis noted that domestic travel within the UK was also set to be popular.

"You see more promotions for domestic travel here because there is a market due to the weakened exchange rate and, due to the recession, people want cheaper holidays," he said.

Travel insurance from InsureandGo can offer Brits the reassurance that, should an issue occur with a domestic or overseas break, the financial cost is covered.
