While taking out
pet insurance is one way to ensure a beloved animal is protected if it falls ill, good hygiene and grooming will also help provide a good quality of life, it has been claimed.
Dr Mark Stickney, director of general surgery services at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, told MarcoNews that pet health care includes brushing and grooming on a regular basis to ensure fur does not get matted and also making sure that animals get plenty of exercise and have a high-quality diet.
"Bathing and grooming your pets is helpful for their appearance, but even more so for their health and wellbeing," he noted.
Meanwhile, the National Vaccination Campaign is currently working alongside more than 2,000 veterinary practices in the UK to promote the need for pet owners to vaccinate their animals.
The organisation noted that at present, up to 11 million animals in the UK could be at risk of a range of infections, which in some cases could be life threatening.
