Rehoming a rescue dog is a popular option with celebrities, a new book serialised in the Daily Mail reveals.
However, even famous people who are not short of money are asked in their interview if they are aware of the importance of
pet insurance.
Writing about the time when she worked at Battersea Dogs Home, author Melissa Wareham notes that a number of celebrities have passed through its doors, from Kevin Spacey to Geri Halliwell.
"Are you aware of the financial costs involved in keeping a dog? Feeding, vaccinations, pet insurance, boarding kennels, flea treatment and worming? Do you feel you are able to meet the costs for the duration of the dog's life?" Mr Spacey was asked by one employee who did not recognise him.
Up to 700 dogs and 100 cats at a time are housed at Battersea, Ms Wareham continues, many of which may have been abandoned because of the financial implications of keeping a pet.
Orla Aungier, of the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, recently stressed the importance of pet insurance to the Irish Times.
Pet insurance from
InsureandGo is an affordable option for all animal lovers.
