People who own animals should have their
pet insurance and animal health costs subsidised by the government, it has been claimed.
US politician Republican representative for Michigan Thaddeus McCotter has argued that people who own animals should be given a subsidy to help keep their furry friends in the best of health.
"Pets have been shown to reduce stress, safeguard against depression, improve social skills and even ease loss," he commented.
Mr McCotter argued that by offering aid to keep their pets healthy, the government could in fact be helping people to avoid getting ill themselves.
Meanwhile, Alison Waine, environmental protection officer for animals at Swindon Council, recently noted that when animal owners have pet insurance in place this leaves little excuse if an pet is mistreated.
People who allow their pets to get extremely ill should remember that the cost of pet insurance is often much cheaper than the fines which accompany the mistreatment of animals, Ms Waine noted.
InsureandGo offers pet insurance to help cover the costs of vet and healthcare bills for animals.
