Those looking for a last minute gift this Christmas could find that taking out pet insurance and adopting an animal is the ideal way to fill their home with festive cheer.

A Welsh newspaper has been running a "12 dogs of Christmas" campaign, with eight of the abandoned dogs now re-homed in time to spend Christmas Day with a new family.

Picking a present for a new pet is a good way to welcome an animal into a home, but pet insurance is an essential gift to make sure your pet is covered for the financial cost of any treatment is might need.

Wales Online reports that the unwanted dog which first started off the Echo's re-homing campaign has finally been taken in by a family.

Sebastian, a two-year-old brindle mastiff cross, was taken in by Deborah Preece.

"As soon as I saw him I fell in love with him. He took to me really quickly. He jumped on me so much I fell over," she remarked.

Meanwhile, Wigan Today recently reported that exotic pets such as snakes could make an interesting Christmas gift.

Co-owner of Appleton Exotics, Terry Cooper, told the newspaper that more unusual pets could make even better pets than traditional domestic animals.

InsureandGo provides comprehensive pet insurance for any type of animal, so homeowners are covered whether they buy a new dog or something a little more out of the ordinary.
