Tourists have been attracted to the Philippines to take part in adventurous activities relating to the country's volcanoes, it has been reported.

Visitors are travelling to the country to swim and use kayaks in Mount Pinatubo's large crater lake, Agence France-Presse asserts.

Mount Pinatubo last erupted in 1991 and is one of 300 such natural formations across the Philippine's islands - 22 of which are active and 27 are identified as 'potentially active', the news agency asserts.

Head of the protected areas and wildlife bureau Teresa Mundita Lim told the agency that the country's volcanic regions are home to some of the world's most diverse flora and fauna.

Earlier this month, it was reported in the Manila Bulletin that an eco-tourism project on the Philippines' Hamilo Coast has reported swift success.

Those with a taste for adventure who wish to take part in an action-packed holiday may find that they can benefit from contacting InsureandGo for activity holiday insurance, which automatically covers 40 adventure sports, such as white water rafting and bungee jumping.
