Although drink drivers are top of the bill as far as advertising campaigns are concerned this Christmas, the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) has warned that uninsured drivers will also targeted by police this festive season.

Busy cities will be monitored by cameras with Automatic Number Plate Technology throughout the holiday period; these cameras identify suspected uninsured vehicles using data supplied by the MIB.

The organisation warns that the problem of uninsured driving is even more prevalent at Christmas when friends often help out those who have had too much to drink by offering to take care of their vehicles.

"Traditionally, this time of year has always spelt trouble for drink drivers," said MIB chief executive Ashton West.

"However, the uninsured should also think twice before getting behind the wheel, as police forces across the UK are on the lookout for them.

"As the police have access to far more motor insurance information than ever before, people shouldn't be tempted to incorrectly claim they're insured to drive somebody else's car."

Over 50,000 uninsured vehicles have been seized in nationwide this year alone.
