Police authorities in the town of Yeovile have advised local Polish drivers to make sure they have the right car insurance for their vehicles.

According to the local police force, Polish immigrants to the area are increasingly bringing their cars over with them, but many are not fulfilling the necessary requirements.

"It's becoming increasingly common for Polish people to bring cars with them from Poland, but many don't realise that after six months they must be registered in the UK, taxed and have an MOT and appropriate insurance," said Police Constable Amanda Mehrlich.

Polish immigrants were at risk of losing their vehicles if they failed to acquire the proper car insurance, Ms Merhrlich further warned.

And local authorities are taking the initiative by requesting the DVLA to issue guidance written in Polish, which can be handed out within their neigbourhoods.

According to recent figures from the North Yorkshire County Council, Polish drivers are the most at risk in the area.
