Briton is turning into a nation of home improvers rather than movers, according to a new survey.
A recent study, carried out by moneysupermarket.com, found that around eight million British property owners would like to do more home improvements.
While 45 per cent believe that these improvements are made to bring up the value of a home, a further 35 per cent that loft conversions, adding a conservatory or simply carrying out a bit of interior designing is just done to make a home better.
Among those keen to carry out home improvements are 1.7 million who have improved other homes and are intending to do more in their spare time.
"It's no surprise we have a bevy of budding property developers out there," said Louise Cuming, head of mortgages at the price comparison website.
"With house prices having escalated dramatically over the past five years, along with the cost of stamp duty and mortgage fees, many people are turning to home improvement instead."
