Too many road signs are making British drivers confused, the head of campaigns for the RAC Foundation has said.
Speaking to BBC One's 'Breakfast' programme, Sheila Ranger expressed her worries that too many instructions were leaving drivers confused.
"When it comes to road safety too much information can be as bad as none at all," she said.
Particularly in the rural areas, drivers were getting overwhelmed by all the information and where unable to pick out the most essential facts to ensure safe driving, Ms Ranger further indicated.
Her comments were also in support of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, which seeks to raise similar concerns over the large number of road signs littering the UK's rural roads.
According to the campaign, 70 per cent of these signs are not needed, not only confusing motorists but also being a blight on Britain's rural landscapes.
It estimates that 50 per cent of the country's rural areas are currently disturbed by noise and visual intrusion.
