The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) has updated its passenger safety guide, to address Britons getting behind the wheel during their holidays.
The hot weather, which can cause a passenger distractions, and children are two large disruptions for drivers, and both tend to combine during summer holidays.
"If you are motoring with your family you will want to make sure they are travelling safely. Over the last few years vehicles have been made much safer for occupants in the event of a crash, but there is still a lot you can do yourself to protect your passengers," said Mike Owen, head of operations for the RMIF.
The RMIF urged parents to take particular care when buying child seats, making sure they meet the right specifications and that fixed seats are installed by a professional installer.
The organisation also advised pregnant passengers that they must still wear a seatbelt, with the lap belt going under the bump across both hip bones, with the diagonal strip going across the chest as usual.
Full guidelines, as well as specifications for child seats depending on their age and weight are to be found at the organisation's website.
