September was a record month for tourism in Malta, new figures have indicated.
The country's National Statistics Office has released data indicating that the number of inbound tourists in September increased to 143,698, a 17.8 per cent rise on the same month last year.
An increase was noted in tourists, particularly from Great Britain, Ireland and France.
Some 969,572 individuals are estimated to have visited the island in the nine-month period ending in September, a rise of nine per cent on the same period in 2006.
Growth was also noted in the number of nights consumers remained in Malta, the average stay increased by 10.8 per cent in comparison to the same month last year.
It was reported earlier this month in the Times of Malta that a new guidebook has been produced to help the country scale to new heights in the niche rock-climbing tourist market.
