Figures from the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) show that a record number of people are planning to go abroad for the Christmas and New Year period, according to a report on World First.
Justin Fleming, Abta's president said: "This is always a peak time for travel as people make the most of the bank holidays and once again there are a record number (of Britons) travelling."
The figures show that 3.5 million Brits are likely to jet off this holiday season and BAA has estimated that it will see 2.7 million people travelling through its airports over Christmas and new year. BAA claims that 1.2 million will travel through Heathrow alone.
In related news, figures from the Foreign Office reported on Asap say that 2,000 British tourists were arrested in Spain last year, an increase of 32 per cent from 2006. French police arrested 152 British holidaymakers in 2007, a rise of 42 per cent on the previous year.
