A record 1.25 million people visited China's Three Gorges Dam in the last 12 months, according to a tourism development firm.

Yangtze River Three Gorges Tourism Development reports that 2007 was the third consecutive year that the site had attracted more than one million tourists.

Xu Ting, a marketing clerk at the firm, reports that the area will see more visitors this year due to events such as the Olympic Games in August, according to news agency Xinhua.

The dam itself is also due to be completed in the course of 2008, with its 26 turbo generators able to produce 84.7 kWh of electricity per year.

Located in the Xilingxia gorge, the complex will be one of the largest hydroelectric facilities in the world.
