Tibet is expected to have seen a record number of visitors by the end of this year, it has been reported.
According to news agency Xinhua, an official stated that the country expects to receive 4.02 million tourists by the time 2007 ends.
Zhang Qingli, secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China, noted that the area's tourism revenue is expected to reach 4.8 billion yuan (£320 million).
"The golden time of Tibet tourism has come," he told the agency, explaining that the traditional low season of tourism which normally begins after the Golden Week of national holiday in October has seen higher than average numbers of visitors to the region.
In recent days, it was reported by the Associated Press that "a deluge" of tourists are visitng holy sites in the region.
