A survey conducted by Flash Eurobarometer has shown that a third of European holidaymakers go on a break for rest and relaxation.
And to ensure a break is as stress-free as possible, tourists may want to invest in a comprehensive
travel insurance policy to cover their trip.
In total, more than 27,000 EU citizens aged 15 and above were surveyed for the poll.
Of these, 36 per cent of Brits said rest and relaxation was the main reason they took a break, with almost 30 per cent citing wanting to get some sun and go to the beach.
Visiting friends or relatives saw 17 per cent of British tourists taking a holiday.
The survey also showed the different attractions enjoyed by different age groups.
The results revealed that 15 to 24-year-olds were more drawn to a holiday spot by the sun and beach, with tourists over 54 more interested in city trips or cultural breaks.
