With economic concerns prominent in the press, a new report has predicted that more people may look to take short city breaks in order to save money on their holidays.

According to the Post Office, Britain could see a revival of the city break akin to that witnessed following Black Monday in October 1987, whereafter many tourists flocked to destinations such as Barcelona, Prague and Dublin as people looked to cut down on the costs associated with longer breaks.

Head of travel at the Post Office Helen Warburton explains: "It’s all about cost. After Black Monday many people had to cut back on expenditure and there was a strong growth trend in two or three night short breaks."

The organisation notes that cities such as Riga, Krakow, Tallinn and Dubrovnik may prove popular with tourists in the coming months as people look to reduce spending.

Such news follows a recent report by Which? that found that a growing number of people are taking medical holidays abroad to undergo operations and treatments to save money on the cost of healthcare.

InsureandGo allows people to take holidays with assurance that their travel insurance policy will provide a suitable level of cover.
