Many holidaymakers are taking unauthorised days off from work in order to recover from their trip, MSN.com has reported.

According to a poll of 2,011 adults, conducted by Travelsupermarket.com, 37 per cent of men admitted to having taken an unscheduled day off following a holiday.

Women were slightly less guilty, with 25 per cent taking more time off than originally planned while, in terms of region, those from north west England were the most likely to avoid work after a trip.

Travelsupermarket's Bob Atkinson commented, "Many people look forward to their holiday for so long that when they get back they experience serious post-holiday blues.

"Maybe people should take more holidays for less time, or just be honest with themselves and always book an extra day."

For those planning a well-deserved break, instant travel insurance is available from InsureandGo.
