Although Malta has no mountains as such, its jagged coastline and rugged cliffs are encouraging climbers to seek Mediterranean shores when booking their next adventure holiday.

Across the islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino, there are over a thousand established climbing routes but many experienced climbers do not limit themselves to the prescribed avenues and seek out their own previously unexplored locations.

Due to thousands of years of erosion, the islands' limestone rock has been sculpted into a rock climbers' paradise, with a vast array of walls and slabs jutting out at different heights and angles to provide a multitude of routes of varying difficulties.

One of the favourite aspects for many of the island's climbers is the beach locations of some of the sites. Once the safety checks have been carried out, climbers can make their ascent up the cliff face before swapping abseiling for a thrilling free fall into the crystal clear waters below.
