Attractions linked to Britain’s royal family are continuing to lure in overseas visitors, The Independent has reported.

According to figures from tourism promotion body VisitBritain, over £500 million a year is generated by foreign tourists visiting attractions connected with the royal family.

Last year, 2.39 million visitors experienced the Tower of London, making it the most popular royal attraction, while 2.38 million visited the National Maritime Museum, and 2.27 million headed to the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Despite only being open for two months out of the year, Buckingham Palace also managed to attract 402,000 visitors last year.

Sandie Dawe, chief executive of VisitBritain, commented, “This fascinating research shows Britain’s monarchic heritage draws tourists to just about every corner of the country.”

UK travel insurance is available from InsureandGo for Brits hoping to experience the best of the country’s attractions.
