Unlike many of us, a walrus at San Diego zoo is keeping up with his New Year's resolution to keep fit.

'Seahook' has captivated audiences and his fellow animals alike by completing a fitness routine consisting of press up and sit ups, which he does alongside his energetic trainer.

The phenomenon has sparked a health drive across the park that has seen dogs encouraged to keep active while the pigs are being fed bowls of fresh fruit and vegetables in an attempt to shed the pounds.

Wardens at the park are trying to tempt hefty underwater manatees into eating healthily by leaving lettuce floating in their swimming areas.

A six-year-old border collie has even begun skipping with his owner to get fit for the new year.

SeaWorld in San Diego is one of the most popular aquatic centres in the world and due to star attractions such as a dolphin and otter feeding centre, 280,000 gallon walk-through shark encounter and a wild arctic station where visitors come face to face with polar bears, beluga whales and, of course, Seahook, who will be on hand to demonstrate his workout routine.
