Of all those hoping to be visited by Father Christmas this year, car insurance provider elephant.co.uk is not one of them.

The firm explains that Santa's high-speed driving and high mileage, when combined with his penchant for a drink or two over the festive period, would make him a risky client with an "astronomical" premium to pay.

Managing director of the car insurance provider Brian Martin notes: "The fastest car we insure is the Lamborghini Murcielago but our underwriters would have a hard time working out an insurance group for Santa's sleigh."

Mr Martin notes that to get around the world in one night, Santa would have to travel at an average speed of 2,700 mph with no stops, a velocity which would "surely" result in a driving ban, should he be caught.

In related news, the British Insurance Brokers' Association recently advised drivers to take extra care when taking to the roads over the yuletide period.

Consumers shopping around for a deal on car insurance may feel like Christmas has come early with a cheap policy from InsureandGo.
