Sardinia train crash kills three

A train accident on the island of Sardinia resulted in one British casualty in two Italian, while ten others were injured.

The accident occurred early on Friday morning at about 06.30 GMT as a passenger train and a freighter collided, as the fire brigade reported to local news agency Adnkronos.

The British casulaty was a woman of about 30 of Swiss origin but with a British passport, according to Reuters.

She was travelling with her boyfriend, who was badly injured during the crash and was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, along with four others.

The two other casualties were the driver of one of the trains and a local commuter.

The other driver was also badly injured.

The crash occurred between the towns of Bortigali and Birori, located in the central province of Nuoro.

Police and officials were quickly on the scene to rescue the injured from the wreckage.
