The number of road rage incidents has been cut by half, thanks to an increase in the number of people using satellite navigation systems in their cars, according to new research.

A survey by radar detector company Snooper found that the 50 per cent reduction was thanks to the fact that sat-nav systems help a motorist's concentration, as well as cut the stress levels associated with trying to find the place they are supposed to be going.

The systems also help with alertness, according to the study.

Steven Ballard of Snooper told website carkeys.co.uk: "The capabilities of satellite navigation systems have improved dramatically in recent years and they have also become commonplace in vehicles.

"The result of this rapid development is, as shown in the survey, a safer, more efficient driving experience for those drivers who invest in the technology."

Snooper's research also revealed that those without sat-nav systems are 12 per cent more likely to damage their car.
