Drivers who use the roads during the morning rush hour may be interested to know that accidents hit a peak at that time.

New figures suggest that around 1.6 million school run drivers have had a car accident in the last five years - a fact that the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) has described as "not surprising".

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for Biba, said: "The school run is the peak time, it's when we get the most vehicles on our congested roads so it's a combination of things. The school run incidents are quite often the little bumps that you get in trying to quickly drop off and pick up your little ones. "

Regardless of the magnitude of the accident, the figures reinforce the need for a good insurance policy to protect drivers from unexpected costs.

Data recently published by Sainsbury's Finance also indicates that 13 per cent of drivers blame a fear of making their child late as the main cause of driving erratically while on the school run.

Whether driving children to school or using such transport for other reasons, motorists might like to consider the car insurance products offered by InsureandGo, which provide a variety of cover options.
