A nationwide campaign in Scotland caught a total of 40 drivers who were in excess of the speeding limit, the local press has reported.

According to the Johnston Press, the campaign also stopped 46 drivers and 11 passengers for not wearing a seatbelt in the day-long campaign carried out by the Scottish police authorities.

And one 48-year-old man in Angus caught speeding at over 90 miles per hour turned out to be a disqualified driver with no insurance.

Police seized his vehicle and three others during the campaign, because of a lack of either a driving licence or proper insurance.

Two further van drivers were also caught driving at around 90 miles per hour on the A92 near Angus.

'It is absolutely ridiculous that the drivers of two goods vans in particular thought it was acceptable to drive on public roads at speeds around 90 miles per hour,' said head of road policing for Tayside chief inspector Bowman.
