Seattle may be known as a city of heavy industry and grunge music but there is nothing square or dark about its comedy festival, due to take from March 15th to April 1st.
Dubbed by locals as the Moisture Festival, locals and visitors alike will be treated to the east coast's best aerialists, jugglers, comedians, dancers, rope acts, clowns and strong men all doing their bit to keep the circus tradition alive.
All of the shows are presented as a variety performance and artists only have five to 15 minutes to display their talents and wow the audience.
Last year, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer described the festival as "a revival of a bygone era" due to its commitment to the variety tradition of the 19th century in London and Paris.
Athima Chansanchai, who reviewed the holiday show added: "It's flying, swirling, laughing. It's sexy and funny."
As the home of Starbucks, Seattle boasts the best coffee in the US, so if all the colour, glamour and swirls get a bit too much, visitors should take a trip down to the harbour and enjoy a good cup as they gaze out into the Pacific Ocean.
