Anyone planning to take out cheap travel insurance and head off on an inexpensive holiday might like to consider a self-catering break in Europe, it has been claimed.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert from travelsupermarket.com, said destinations in Europe can offer some of the best value self-catering holidays, as the sheer range of amenities and places to eat out in Europe make this an ideal destination for Brits looking to cut back on their holiday spending.

He commented: "You'll find that it's the Spanish, Portuguese and Greek resorts where a self-catering option becomes a good idea. [This is] because of the sheer range of places to eat out and things to do."

According to Skyscanner's Flight Trends report for January 2010, Spain remains the most popular country for British travellers, despite fears that less favourable euro exchange rates would lead to a switch to non-euro countries such as Turkey.

InsureandGo offers cheap travel insurance for any planning a holiday on a budget.
