Basic but effective measures could prevent people becoming victims of burglary this Christmas, according to Liverpool Victoria.
The
home insurance provider noted in recent days that the majority of consumers have costly items in their homes, such as televisions, DVD players and jewellery.
Spokesperson Emma Holyer added that people often do not close their curtains in the evening, meaning that many possessions are on display.
"For a thief, thats an advertisement to them really," she noted.
Ms Holyer concluded that people should be vigilant, especially during the yuletide period, as there is "nothing worse" than coming home to find that a property has been broken into as it is a very "upsetting", "time-consuming" and "often costly" process to put things right.
According to the British Crime Survey, the number of domestic burglaries that took place in 2005-06 was approximately 733,000 and in the same period of time around two in every hundred properties were burgled.
