More British tourists are travelling to Singapore than ever before, it has been reported.

According to the Singapore Tourism Board, 2007 saw the country receive a record number of visitors from within the EU, with nearly 1.3 million inbound tourists noted, a growth of 4.6 per cent since 2006.

The board asserts that the UK and Germany remain key source markets, with nearly half a million (496,000) British travellers visiting the island city-state.

"Interest in Asia has been growing due to increasing awareness of the region's myriad cultural and historical attractions arising from strong media interest," the board notes.

Singapore is also ideally located as a natural hub for travellers between the EU and Australia, it comments.

Online resource Uniquely Singapore notes a host of visitor attractions boasted by the country, including a host of excellent restaurants, rock concerts, ghost hunting tours and fishing opportunities.
