No matter what people's on-piste habits are, taking out ski insurance is always important, it has been claimed.

However, moneysupermarket.com also points out that consumers need to realise that opting automatically for an expensive policy will not necessarily provide them with the best cover.

The group noted that all policies will contain exceptions and caveats that make it essential for people to shop around and research policies before deciding on a certain product.

Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, explained: "I advise Brits looking to insure their winter sports holidays not to assume more money equals better cover. Getting the most bang for your buck is a top priority for the financially-savvy."

Earlier this year, esure reminded adventurous travellers that it was particularly important to read the small print of insurance policies to check they would be covered for any manner of extreme sports.

A quarter of people interviewed by the group claimed that they intended to visit a resort where they could indulge in sports such as scuba diving, white water rafting and bungee jumping.

InsureandGo's ski insurance is designed to accommodate enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
