Holidaymakers could find that they can travel "smarter, faster and safer" if they follow a few simple tips, it has been claimed.

And essential travel insurance aside, Brits could also save money abroad if they know a few travel secrets.

Travel and Leisure magazine reporters have travelled the globe over the past year and have come back with a list of hints that could help holidaymakers save money and get the most out of their break.

Top of the list is asking for extras in a room.

While many Brits may be uncomfortable with asking for more, the magazine notes that those tourists who regularly visit the same hotel could find the owners willing to throw in a few extras.

These could include meals or travel to and from the airport.

Other advice includes finding out which tourist attractions open late and discovering how to get a table at an expensive - and often fully booked - restaurant.

Travelling from alternative airports could also save tourists money.

Brits who regularly travel to the same hotel when taking a trip could find an annual multi trip policy from InsureandGo ideal for the cover they need.
