Social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace will continue to look at different ways of making money until they find one which generates revenue without compromising popularity, it has been claimed.

Twitter addicts and those who cannot go a day without updating their Facebook status could be wise to get computer insurance to make sure that any damage to a system is repaired quickly.

Managing director of New Media Intelligence Tim Houghton said that he did not believe that any social networking site has "figured this out yet".

According to the Global Faces and Networked Places report from the Nielsen Company, which was published in March, social networking is very popular around the globe.

Figures from the report show that one in every 11 minutes spent online globally is spent surfing social networking websites.

Computer insurance from InsureandGo can cover the financial cost of damage to a computer and get people back online swiftly and cheaply.
