Anyone contemplating improvements to their property might want to consider adding solar panels to provide renewable energy.

Prior to making any large-scale amendments to a property, it could be prudent for homeowners to contact their home insurance provider to ensure that any work will not impact upon their cover.

A spokesperson for the National Energy Foundation said that solar energy is an infinite source of power which at present is largely untapped.

He commented: "The reality is that the homes of the future have got to be a mixture of stuff; they have got to be very well insulated [and] you have got to get as much out of solar as you can."

According to research carried out by Tickbox.com in partnership with Opinion Matters, 91 per cent of Britons expect household energy costs to go up over the next two years, while 76 per cent of people believe that adding renewable energy generation technology to their property could boost its value.

Home insurance from InsureandGo helps cover the cost of replacing any items damaged during home improvement.
