Following growth of some six per cent in the last seven years, the tourism sector in South Africa is showing more potential for growth.

Such is the shared opinion of experts who are currently attending a symposium on trade and investment in Durban.

The Trade and Investment South Africa Conference's theme is "Develop, Facilitate, Grow".

News agency BuaNews reports that director of investment, promotion and facilitation at the department of trade Yunis Hoosen stated that the industry had seen "significant growth" since 1994.

Events such as the 2010 Fifa World Cup, which will be held in the country, were identified as important steps in the development of the sector.

Qualifying matches have already begun in a number of countries around the world ahead of the international football tournament.
