While
travel insurance can help to provide security and reassurance for travellers, the destination holidaymakers choose can also be a factor. For many Brits, Spain could feel like a "home away from home", one commentator suggests.
Carmen Hernandez, market analyst at the Spanish Tourist Office in London, said that many Britons feel that visiting Spain is a safe option for holidays as they are able to benefit from all the home comforts in surroundings they are familiar with.
She noted: "Almost 90 per cent of Britons who travelled to Spain in 2008 had already been there on holiday before. The links between both countries are undeniable and strong."
Ms Hernandez added that since the onset of the economic downturn the Spanish tourist office has worked on marketing new and undiscovered parts of the country to the British holidaymaker.
According to Trivago, the price of staying in a standard double hotel room in Barcelona fell by ten per cent between February and March this year to £93 per night.
