Spain increased its visitor numbers once again in August and continues to attract more UK visitors than anywhere else, official figures have revealed.
The country's ministry of industry, commerce and tourism (Mytic), the number of tourists arriving in Spain hit the 7.7 million mark during August of this year.
The number meant a 3 per cent increase year-on-year when comparing the same month, news agency AFX News reported.
In the year to August, over 41 million visitors arrived in Spain, an increase of 2.2 per cent over the same eight months in 2006.
A rising star in the Spanish tourism industry is Malaga, which earlier this week had reported a substantial increase in visitors.
The birthplace of Pablo Picasso is on the country's well known Costa del Sol, which every year attracts a large number of UK tourists looking for great weather and beaches.
The town is popular because of its strong tradition of folklore as it is situated in the southern most region of Spain, Andalucia, and because it is among the largest towns in the Mediterranean coastline.
